I now know why most older Vettes are not driven in the rain! Water leaks on both sides. Appears to be coming out of the winshield moldings on both sides. I have resealed the windshield but that has not stopped the flow. I have been told that I should replace the windshield and top weatherstrips. Who has the best price/quality on these three items? Hints, suggestions, tricks, tips, horror stories?
Ok I’ll post. I just replaced my vette’s weather-strip, the front and rear. Going to do the doors and rear hatch this weekend. I got the kit from corvette central. They had good delivery time. Only problem I had was installing the windshield piece was the little plastic hold downs (not sure what you call them) didn't come with the windshield strip. all the others had them, but mine were still good. It came with weather-strip header and pillar one piece, door main - pair, roof and rear pillar one piece, rear hatch window one piece. And one tube of weather-strip adhesive For 500 bucks. I didn’t need the targa top piece.
For advice all I can say is take your time, cover your dash and center consol. Trust me on this cause I didn’t. I’m still cleaning the mess. For tools all I used was a flat head screw driver a 1/4 “ chisel and my trusty dremel with a wire wheel. You’ll laugh but I even polished the springs on the visor. Oh yeah it’s easier if you remove the plastic pieces. Good luck.
The Last Detail out of Atlanta has good prices on weatherstripping. I haven't bought any yet so I can't vouch for the quality. You can get the windsheild piece for $210(GM) or $140(repro). It's a good place to deal with though. Here's the link: http://www.tld-corvette.com/
