96 Problems
I need some help. I have a 96 coupe that all of a sudden my speedometer seems OK but it will not register any speed -- It stays at 0mph. Also my car being an automatic will go into gear but it will not shift gears-- it is like it will stay in first gear and stays there. The car will rev really high then. I have no warning lights on and my car seems fine other than these two problems that started at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

lesson learned (in my other car w/ auto) coming home one day car stopped shiffting, stuck in first or second, speedo also freaked out but became stable (anolog), i took the car to the trans shop and the tech says the speed/shift sensor failed......... worth checking into

You need to check the transmissions speed sensor. That signal is used for several things. Shooting from the hip here but what does your fuel efficiency gauge show when driving. Pretty sure it also uses the signal developed by the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). Use the instaneous and average feature and see what it does.
Or, if you have access to a good scanner, it will read the signal on a road test.
