attempted to have a new (from summit) MSD GM coil, and a used MSD 6a box installed on my car, but it didn't work out as my mechanic said "it kept blowing the coil fuse", so we put everything back to normal. Now the car idles rough, but doesn't really surge....it idles rough all the time, and I can hear an audible snapping coming from the area of the coil coinciding with the idle (sounds electric, like the sound that's made when you get a shock from static electricity). I'm pretty sure my MSD coil is working well, it's probably the box that was the problem.....so I'm wondering if I put the MSD coil back in, if it would help, I'm also wondering what's making the car do these things right now.......bad stock coil?
That snap your're hearing is electricity going to ground. You could put your hand down there and you'll find the problem real quick. Take the car somewhere dark (like a garage) and you should be able to see the spark jump easily. It goes without saying, be sure to ventalate the area as the car will be running.
I had something simular happen and it was a plug wire that the previous owner thought would be a good idea to wedge it under the exhaust manifold. :smash: Opened the hood at night and started the car and was clear as day where the wire had been melted through and arcking. New wires and rerun them properly took care of my problem. Good luck.
