I'm replacing ALL the sensors on my 92 LT-1 as they are 10 yrs old. I want to be sure I don't put something on the threads etc. that shouldn't be there ..or forgot to use something that should be. The Helms isn't always complete. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
My guess is to use dielectric grease on all the electrical connectors and some specific (I forget what it's called) lube for the high heat (i.e. O2 ) sensors. Teflon tape is good for most any other threaded connection. But follow the advice of the Helms manual. Especially if you would like it to leak like it came from the factory :)
That high heat lube is made of something like graphite and very fine glass beads. The graphite burns off but the micro-beads of glass prevent sensor seizure.
Thanks for the advise. I've got the Helms manuals which is the same ones that GM uses. I have found that sometimes the info. is not always correct. Go figure.
I'm replacing them with GM ..OEM .. from Jeff @ Superior Chevy. BTW, his prices beat the local dlrshp. buy 50% for the same sensors. One heck of a deal. With all the senors 10 yrs old, it's just a matter of time.
