I just put on some C5 wheels and I am running 275-40-17 in front and 285-40-18 in the rear. Now the service ASR and service ABS lights come on and stay on till I turn off the car. Every thing seems to be working right. Do you think that the different tire sizes are messing up the computer?
This is the standard GM brake fluid warning. Top off your brake fluid and make sure there are NO air bubbles in the system. Sometimes you have to top it off a few times before it works.
Your wheels and tires have nothing to do with the ASR/ABS light coming on.
I had this problem last year :yesnod: There is a sensor in the brake fluid resv, if it sticks you will get the light coming on when you know nothing is wrong.
Take a small wrench or hammer and tap around the whole assmbly...this will loosen up the sensor and you should lose the light coming on. :yesnod:
yes, the tire sizes will confuse the ABS system. dunno if the difference in your setup is enough to cause a warning light, but it might be.
as others have said, low fluid will also trigger the ABS light (dunno about the ASR, though). my vote is against that possibility if the lights coming on coincided with the wheel swap.
The tire size is programmed for a particular ABS system. The ABS computer monitors each wheel speed and compares. If the speeds are not close to each other, it will trip the light and deactivate the system. With a change in wheel size, this will change the rotation speed of the reluctor. You can check this a couple ways. If you have a scanner with the ABS module, you can watch the individual wheel speeds and note any difference. 1 or 2 mph should be ok. Some ABS systems seem to tolerate a larger deviation. Don't know for sure what the allowance is. Bosch does not make software changes easy.
