What is the best intake manafold to use on a stock 1991 L98 (mods are open air lid, no precats, high flow main cat)
i have a little extra cash and am ready to upgrade---i do not want to need a new prom. Do you think SLP, Accel etc.
your input is great thanks Jimbo :D :D  :jester
My accel base works great. It is a big job though don't let anyone tell you its an hour swap. I hope you are going to get some good gaskets to put inbetween the heads and intake manifold. I don't think that many people use old gaskets but with the L98s reputation to have coolant leaks in this specific gasket (i know firsthand from my car) it would be rediculous to not replace them unless they are basically brand new. You haven't had the gaskets changed in the past have you? I also ported the plenum and put LPE runners on so I can't tell you exactly how much better a basically stock '91 would perform with one. Also remember that our speed density cars are more sensitive to mods. But my '91 runs pretty good with the stock chip.
He didn't see any gain from it until he installed a set of AS&M LT runners that I sold him; then he picked up .2-.3sec off his ET. The AS&M runners come with larger gaskets and some bolts needed.
Anyway the base can be the first step in preparation for the LT runners.
I don't think this combo will effect manifold vacuum so shoud be ok with your SD setup. You should be able to tune fuel flow at WOT to the increased air flow with an AFPR.
Thanks guys for your imput------any other things i should look for??? i noticed alot of different runner designs
any thing i should know?? any design better --slp etc???    :jester jimbo
If you don't want to have to get a custom chip, then you need to stick to the long runner type intake. Don't even look at a Super Ram or a Mini Ram.
Basically, it if looks stock, then you should be alright.
I have heard the AS&M runners are great.
I have bought many products from SLP, and they have all been top quality. I don't see why their runners wouldn't be the same way.
I kinda doubt you will really see any difference between the AS&M, SLP, Edelcrap, or Accel runners to be honest. Same goes with the various bases available. They are all much better than stock. Be sure to port your plenum to match.
