I'm interested in doing some tuning on the dyno and the tech made a suggestion. He told me to get a unit that allows some fine tuning while
plugging into the car on the dyno.
Are there some simple, user friendly, units out there that don't require
a bunch of brains to work with.
This is all in regards to my car in the sig. Of course, before I get on the dyno, I'm gonna do some minor mods, but I want it all to run as well as possible.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.
whats your speaking of is an eprom emulator, and no you cant get one. The only other choice is to replace the ecm with an aftermarkey setup like a haltech or fast.
The only thing you can do is log a run, then burn a new chip and make another run.
There are some commands embedded in the prom to set timing and fueling and some other things on the fly through the ALDL port (the Mode 4 commands). Probably used by GM engineers to finalize the calibration. Craig Moates has expressed an interest to exploit this in a future version of his SW, but nothing yet.
Ive heard about the romulator by xtronics, but i wasnt aware it could succesfully be used on a tpi engine. Still i think thought you have to adjust the maps then update the rom, you cant actually tweak the maps as they are in use.
According to xtronics, the emulator can be updated in between reads by the ECM by using fast dual ported RAM. To use it on an engine means telling it what physical address to update when you want to change timing, fueling, etc. This is the aspect TunerCat is rumored to be working on - ie move a slider and the corresponding value is updated in real time. Will they deliver something useful? Dunno.
