I've searched and can't find my answer.

I have 2.59 gears. I'd like to swap the entire chunk. Theres a '85 on c/l, the whole car with 51k miles, really rough, been sitting, runs and is cheap. Will the chunk fit my '93? If it turns out to be a dana 44 will that swap into my '93 if I have the whole car?

I haven't contacted the seller yet because I want to make sure this stuff interchanges. If it does I'll check to see what gear it has and maybe end up with a ton of spare parts....

If not and I buy new gears does the carrier (or posi) need to be changed? What is the gear ratio range per carrier.
I'd go with a 3.07 if it was dirt cheap, if not I want to go with a 3.54.

I've done a lot of gear swaps, just not on any vettes. Thanks for any info or links to info.

An '85 if it's a MT car would have had a D44 for an original build and would have been a 3.07 ratio. You could use the entire D44 along with the C-beam in your '93 and you would only have to drill/ream the mounting holes each side of the differential where the LWR arm (camber adjusting) bracket attaches. If it's a D36 car it "could be" 2.73 (GU2), 2.87 (HK1) or 3.07 (G44) I believe. If the RPO SPID label is there you could likely rely on that information.

If you wanted to do a gear only change to your 2.59 you would need a differential carrier for a 3.07 build. A "THICK" gear package is offered if you wanted to go as steep as 3.54 or 3.73. I don't recall ever seeing a THICK 3.07 package.
