Default 84 vette auto trans problems

Did a smog pump delete on my 84 c4, runs fine but tranny shifts at high points now between 1800 and 2000 rpms. Like a high stall converter was installed, any suggestions thanks.

You moved the tv cable (transmission cable) when you were doing your mods. Adjust it and it will shift right again. Theres bound to be a few howto's on here for that.

Isn't there only one 1 cable to the transmission on the intake? I don't remember messing with it or moving it some how.

Yep that's it and its very easy to get it out of whack. You could of bumped the button on the cable housing or pushed down on the cable while doing the other work.

The link that CROWS gave is for the Tune Port, but the procedure are very much the same for the Cross Fire. you just need to go a extra step, you have to remove your air cleaner housing and get down to the Throttle linkage bridge.

when removing the Air cleaner housing take lots of care to disconnect all the Vacuum lines CAREFULLY, and it would not be a bad idea to have some extra Vac. hoses on hand by now if the hard plastic lines have not broken and not been replaced it could be an Aggravation not a big problem but a Aggravation.

If the cable adjustment doesn't fix your problem, you may need to look at a sticky Governor in the transmission. which would be a whole other chapter for another post.

I checked all the vacuum lines earlier and the linkages. They seemed fine, nothing is out of place or broke. I guess I'm over looking something

Is the trans cable supposed to be tight at WOT?

when the throttle is closed the cable should be under lite tension, you should be able to pull the cable and it should move freely. But under WOT the cable hits a tension point/stop inside the trans and something has to give that's when the adjuster will ratchet. So yes it should be fairly tight.

I have in the past have given the cable a extra click or 2 but usally no more to soften the shifts for customer's who did not like a jarring shift.

My trans guy told me my TV cable should be 1 click tighter than the adjustment procedure calls for. The only trouble with that is that it gets pulled out the first time I go WOT. Here's a trick to prevent that from happening:
