Default OB2 problem??

WAS fooling around with my 92 today and reading a code 45 which indicated the left O2 sensor was rich "higher level" than the right side. so thought wed replace the part and see what happens, hopefully the problem is not in the OBC..........it might also be why Im getting a rough idle when stopped at a light...... comments welcome

No mention of a rough idle, but may help:

Have ya' got any black smoke? A leaky injector can easily cause your problem and account for the rough running condition. Pull the plugs on the left side and see if any are blacker than the others. It's a good cheap place to start looking.

Default Further information

Dan was over yesterday and we checked the codes in his nice 1992. We got "Left O2 Sensor Rich". When checking the operational data we learned the left sensor was doing its thing, varying from about 200 mv to 700 mv. The left sensor reading stayed constantly above 700 mv.
I told Dan this could be a bad O2 sensor or something in the 02 circuit bad, or it could actually be working correctly and reading a rich condition, which could be a leaky injector or something causing too much fuel in the left side. There is no black smoke from the exhaust.
Options without doing any more troubleshooting are to check the left side plugs, which is relatively easy, or replace the 02 sensor, which is relatively easy and cheap.
The only problem noted when driving the car is sometimes, when the car is warm, when stopped at a light the idle is a little rough. Any other suggestions?

I agree, the first initial course of action is the replace the O2 sensor. If you could look at fuel trim it probably is a low number. Might be wise to clean the plugs if the O2 fixes it.

If you did have a stuck injector and only one dark plug, fix it first or it may kill the new O2 sensor. Get a GM or Delphi sensor as they work best.

Swap the O2 sensors from side to side and see if the problem goes with the sensor. That will tell you if the sensor is bad or the problem is elsewhere.
