Default Question for everyone running the HOT cam

I would really like to see what configs everyone is using with the HOT cam and dyno numbers. I have a friend who wants to do a build-up soon and is curious on the numbers that the HOT cam can push out. This includes anyone with the following that meets the following basic criteria...

1. LT1/4 motors only
2. 350 CI (no strokers please)
3. Dyno numbers, and it would be great if you knew the type of dyno it was run on ie; Mustang or Dynojet

Anything else is fair game...so if you could put down your config and number I would be grateful! Thanks in advance!

Jay

See sig. Note this is through the stock exhaust manifolds. Heads and intake are also stock LT4.

Wow, thanks for the replies! You guys are getting some really good numbers out of that cam.

RichS, what kind of port work was done to those heads?

Yes, the Hot Cam will pass emissions pretty easily if you still have all the normal emissions gear.

The 4.10's are great! One of the best things I did to the car without a doubt. 6th gear is actually useable now! IMHO I wouldn't do a cam without doing the heads with it. Changing a cam on an LT motor is a PITA. But if you have to do it in increments I would do this...

1. gears
2. cam
3. heads/headers

You can throw a cat-back exhaust system on at anytime.

What kind of bike do you ride?

HotCam in stock LT1 350 shortblock, ported LT1 heads and intake, 52mm TB, shorty headers (no gain from these), low impedence ignition coil (standard on '96 & up), Taylor Spiro Pro 10.4 mm ignition wires, LT1Edit computer recalibration. Run on a DynoJet, I don't have the printouts handy, but I seem to remember 300 lbs of torque minimum from ~ 2,000 rpm onward, it has dyno'd as high as 367 rwhp, figures in sig are from latest emmisions tune up - it actually passed emissions with readings that were even cleaner than when it was new and stock!

Only thing I would have done differently in retrospect is to machine the heads for something other than the LT4 valvesprings I am using. It is my current opinion that the non-hollow stem 2.00 x 1.60 valves I have are too heavy for the LT4 valvesprings (although I do run titanium retainers). What I would use instead would be a single spring + dampener combination - I think this alone would put me just over 370 rwhp.

Add a set of proper longtube headers and recalibrate the computer and I think it could make it past 380 rwhp.

I already did the cat back. But I think tires then the gears will be the way to go. I just got ride of my ZX9 it was my pacifier for my Vette.

Follow the links in the sig to the web page. I've got all my mods listed, along with dyno graphs from various stages. I've got a set of heads in the works as well, then I'll be aiming for 370+ hp.

Okay, I can read, honest. I'm not an LT1 But I had to chime in on this cam. It really, really is a good design. It has a very broad curve and works in everything from 90 L98s to LT4s. I also think the fast burn heads have the same kind of attributes.

You can get cams that will give you more torque or more HP, but the Hot Cam still is streetable and afforable.

(A L98 is not a LT1, but a LT1 is a L98)

Skippy, right you are that this is one of the best all around cams available, it does everything well. Did you know that flexibility was designed right into this cam - originally it was designed with road racing in mind, and the ability to pull strongly throughout the rev range. I don't know if this is still true, but a few years back as I was preparing to install my HotCam I did a source code search in the GM parts system (to find out who was supplying this cam to GM). The answer that I got was that this was an in house cam and that it was NOT sourced through Comp or Crane etc.

One of the best car aftermarket product I've ever owned. GM engineers are some of the most underrated in the world. There is a 50 year list of inovations from GM that everyone overlooks. If the Vette teams had been given half the go-aheads they asked the bean-counters for, we'd be driven mid-engine 11.0/200mph 1.4 g monsters! :p:

See sig, usinf Dynojet.
Next mod will be port/polish heads or just a new set of heads.
After mods go for custom chip programming for best results!!
