Default Spark Plugs

96 vette with an LT1. This model has its own type of spark plugs and

they are supposed to be good for 100,000 miles. The car now has

88,000 miles. It runs good and strong. Did a 13.902 in the quarter.

So is this 100,000 miles number realistic? Or should I change them?

Appreciate your advise.

Iridium plugs will go 100k, but I'm pretty sure the factory plugs were platinum. Those plugs generally are good for around 60k. Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong about the factory plugs.

The '96 did have platinum plugs from the factory.
AC Delco 41-943

These were also a long life plug, at least according to the factory maintenance schedule.
It calls for plug replacement at 100,000 miles

I just replaced my plugs last week (94) with about 72,000 on them which was done in 05. I just did not know the condition of the plugs and since removing them for a check is the same work, I thought I would just replace them. The car was running fine but have seen the ground terminal get thin and could break off.

I will have to say the plugs came our looking real good in color and even metal looked OK. Electrode just slightly rounded but the gap was only 52 thousandths still within tolerance. But I am glad I have new ones in there for I don’t have to worry about them for a long time.
