Ok, I feel I have exhausted every possibility on why the car won't start. I am beyond confused and tired.
So like the title says I put a new flywheel and clutch in my 1990. All went well, got it back together and nothing.
I assumed that the starter had gone bad as it was the original and I took it off to get the dust shield off. So I replaced the starter and still nothing.
So I then decided to get me 2 year old battery tested. Of course it was bad so I got a new battery. This time with a 3 year warranty. I put it in the car and nothing.
It doesn't crank. It used to click at the starter but now with the new starter it doesn't. (I returned the new one for another new one because I stripped a terminal).
I have ruled out a few things. Clutch safety switch. If I hold the key in the start position and push the clutch in and out the starter would click. No clicking anymore. I don't think it can be the relay because of the clicking. Also before when I first got the clutch switch I pushed the car out of the garage and jump started it off my other car and it started right up (ground on block). Also it will crank if I jump terminals.
Fsm no help. Looking for any help please and thank you.
As a diagnostic, get the car up on jack stands or ramps, set the e brake, make sure it's in neutral, take a long wire from the positive terminal on the battery and touch the other end to the small terminal on the end of the starter solenoid....the motor should turn over if the solenoid and the starter are okay;
if it just clicks, either the disc / contacts inside the solenoid are bad, or the starter motor itself has issues...in either case, replace the starter which should also include the solenoid.
You could also have a bad ground, check that the ground strap wasn't left off

Carefully examine your positive connections at the starter stud,
try jumping from the Pos Stud to the S lead. In neutral of course.
check for bendix binding drop the starter with leads attached. Now turn the key.

If I do that it shouldn't turn though? Doesn't the starter ground to the block?
