My father said to just let it drain out into the driveway??
I said i didn't think that was the right thing to do, but i don't know of anyotherway to catch everything (with the 3 plus places your supposed to open it up at).
Is it just ok to drain it into the driveway drain?
( i think i'm going to get alot of WTH are you thinking??!! posts) :) :blueangel:

The answer probably depends on how "environmentally friendly" you are. My opinion is that if you let it drain on the driveway, hose it down to dilute it. But again, that is only my opinion...
I would at least jack up the car and catch the majority of it in a bucket or an oil catch pan (for oil changes).
If you let it go in your driveway and it puddles up, animals may drink it and it will kill them (maybe your dog).
If you don't care about them, and it runs into your lawn, it will kill your grass.
As far as disposing of it once you have it in a bucket, I'd suggest calling the store where you buy the antifreeze and see if they will take it back (you can pour it into gallon jugs).
In New York, anyone who sells motor oil is required to accept back the used motor oil. The same may apply to antifreeze.

Do NOT let it drain into the sewer system. I know at least here on the west coast our street drains straight into the Ocean. And if you are caught it is a very HEFTY fine. Coolant is very harmful for the Enviroment. There should be plenty of recycling centers around to take it back.
call your local parts shop.

ExploreI set it out where the neighborhood pets can't get to it in an open container and allow it evaporate. Then I throw the container away. Very environmentally sound, just make sure there is no chance of kids or pets getting near it.
Dumping it into the street here is a big no-no....all street drains lead to the river.....same place half the drinking water comes from. :nono:

Do not let it run in the drain, if you can't find a place to bring it, just put it back in the old container and drop it at a Jiffy Lube or something(after hours). The Jiffy Lube guys may not like it, but at least they will dispose of it properly.(this was mentioned by another forum member years ago, it is not my suggestion, I'm just repeating it).
It takes a LOOONG time for that to evaporate....... best thing is to recycle it.... if they catch you doing anything else with the they'll get you for that..... and as someone else said......it kills the grass .......dogs, cats and stuff............. and i hear that they can even trace what drain it gets drained from if they want to..........that's the anti freeze cops.......they'll get ya

i guess one thing i didn't state (and Scorp knows this), is that i live in the middle of nowhere. So, at least i don't have to worry about it draining into a city system.
I'll have to stop at AutoZone and see what types of contaners they have... :)

I have never found a "respectable" place that would take the old freeze. Without a recycling center to take it to, what is one suppose to do??? I do the midnight run past a parts store or repair station. I'm sure the repair stations in that "happily enviro conscious" state are required to recycle it.
In the past, I have dumped it in w/ the used oil. The oil recycler guy still doesn't send me Xmas cards.

Last time I had oil picked up here at the school I told the guy that there was some coolant in the oil........couldn't be helped.......sorry........he said it didn't matter. He put a stick in the tank with some sort of chemical on it and pulled it out........looked at the color........... said yup there's some coolant in there.........then he pumped it. I asked him why he didn't care ..... I thought it would screw things up ..........he said that the oil is recycled and they cook it and some other stuff and the coolant comes out of the oil ..... no problem!!!!
