So i picked up a set of 4 corner scales from a buddy of mine just to get an idea where my car scales as it sits right now .. and to my surprise the car is light .. The car is missing a tranny , converter , drive shaft , fluids , battery , Nitrous stuff, driver, headers, windshield and few little things . The car as it sits right now a complete roller , with engine and interior Scaled at 1705

Now according to my list , i prob have another 600-700lbs going back into the car with a 160lbs driver .. Putting the car at in the 2300-2400 lbs range at worst no more than 2500lbs . Kind shocked to be honest , funny part the car still has power windows and factory door panels .. lol

Any tips us street/strip guys can use (ie. Where is there something heavy that is absolutely useless that we can ditch)

 

If track car only & dependent on class rules: Loose the glass replace with Hi-Impact Acrylic sheet.

 

Hatch is a lexan , i've yet to decide what i wanna do with the windshield, might keep it glass.

 

Their is a huge list of things that can be taken out on a street car , just depends on the level of comfort you wanna keep .


Now my car has a full 10pt cage , stright axle that is narrowed , gun drilled axles etc... Everything on the car is in chrome moly which helps alot.

As for the intrior , the car was completely rewired , light carpet , 1 kirkey seat and a fiber glass molded dash that i had wrapped in vinyl. The steering shaft was replaced with a light weight strange removable steering and a moly shaft. crash beams are cut out from the doors and power windows and door panels from a 1994 vette are still attached.

The Car still has factory frame rails , The back side of the car where the storage compartment are , was all cut out to make room for straight axle swap and was replaced with light weight aluminum panels

Hood is a VFN light weight hood , that weights no more than 25lbs and both the front and rear bumpers are an after market fiberglass deal with the updates late 90 corvette look.

the front bumper support and crash bars was modified , and rear craddle where the fuel tank sat , was removed and replaced with moly tubing and a 5 gallon fuel cell .

lots of little things done to car that i cant recall .. My goal was 2800, and from the looks of it ill be few hundred less .

 

Hows the weight distribution?

 

As of right now it's 55% front 45% rear .. The passenger rear corner was the lightest of all 4 , which works out great because it the side the battery , nitrous stuff goes on . I'm also switching the fuel pump and lines to that side of the car .

Why are you doing nitrous (vs boost) in this max effort build?

 

Always been a Nitrous guy and the Nitrous small block crowd is huge here in detroit. Our other Boost street car that my brother and I built and tune goes 8.5s @ 16xMPH on E85 and on 6 cylinders .So boost does also run in the family LOL

I boosted my 93 lt1 stock bottom end and am making 510 rwhp at 5400 rpm. All the supporting mods (afr bigger cc heads, 224/236 cam, 1 7/8" (overkill for me) arh headers/3" xpipe exhaust. Meth/watr inj, 2 fuel pumps, 60 lb/hr inj, etc.

I didnt have a chance to rev it higher because i ran out of time on the dyno and there was another appt.

Since its a stock bottom end i dont wanna rev past 6k until i build the bottom end.

Yes id love to learn what else i can remove to save weight.

The obvious a/c, heavy duAl mass flywheel, spare tire i dumped.

Next step is cf hood and maybe those rpp projector headlights ipo stock flipups

again congratulations on your build. Thats awesome! You had some pictures of your cage (i think that was you) and it was impressive

 

I would love to see pics of the rear fuel cell. From what I've seen, this area pretty much unbolts? For those of us with less access/skill in fabrication, would it be straightforward to adapt a fuel cell?

Also, what sources are still making the rear polycarbonate hatch? Called a few race car body shops who no longer make them.

 

I did my 85 recently too (street based car) and it came out at 1411 kilos (3110 pounds) with 80 kilos (176 pounds) of weight in the drivers seat (right hand drive) and half a tank of fuel.
I got the corner weight to 50.1%

gutting a racecar should be able to get some serious weight out, what does the average c4 rollcage weigh ?
