Default Intake opinions for '89 vette

all the other decisions are firming up(cam, roller rockers, headers, etc).....but I am not sure about the intake. I think the TPiS intake for $1050 is a bit overkill, I saw runners from SLP, another option could be a machine shop.

Thoughts??

TIA

Another option is providing more detail...like was suggested in the past.

I don't want the nitty-gritty, I can get into that with the place I buy from or the machine shop that works on the intake...

so forget the details on what I've done or plan on doing and just give me general plus/minuses on new ones vs getting them done at a machine shop and where to buy if I go for new ones.....not alot of places sell a plethora of parts for my car(and I've visited all of the sponsers websites)

You can't firm up the heads/cam choice until you have an idea of what intake you want to use. To do that you need to have a specific set of goals and behavior in mind for the car. I still haven't seen that in your threads.

Go really fast from 0 to 80mph, no road course or drag racing. Just a more powerful cruiser/DD(only on nice days). Intake, cam, heads(probably machine shop) and headers. I haven't seen too much on intake or where to get one or should I have a machine shop work on it.

Then you should stick with TPI-style and get a TPIS/Accel Base, AS&M runners, port the plenum to match, have the 113 heads worked over. Add headers, 1.6 RR, a cam like the 74211 or something in the 210/220@050" ballpark. Have it tuned and youre done.

No rear gear change needed. Only a 2000-2400 rpm TC.

opinions are intake are WHAT ARE YOUR GEARS? We know what intake works best in what ranges and what gears, we don;t know what gears you have.

What are you talking about "machine shop" ? If you don't get in to the nitty gritty you don't build an organized car.

SLOW DOWN. Don't be ***** nilly.

Get in to the nityy gritty. The nitty gritty tells what cam, what heads, what TC (I see you have one but if you buy the wrong parts it won't compliment)

Gears determine what the car becomes unless you are willing to change them. So yeah gears are the most important part at this point. They are the building block of what your needs needs to be able to do to run them properly.

The intake setup you mention is old and way outdated. Tons of used stuff laying around for not much money.

My opinion is Converted EFI is the best intake. You don't need it for what you are doing.

If you are asking about a machine shop making a custom intake??? more than likely it will sound cheap and then get expensive. Any good machine shop charges good money because it costs a lot to stay in business.

If you are going with a 3.73 gear or 3.90 whatever.and don't want to pay lots try a converted LT1 intake. It's the same.

LTR set ups are a waste if you are doing heads and cam headers IMO. Those parts with the right selection can make 400+ hp on your motor. Lots of dynos to prove it.
