Its application specific if the car is stock. It's a 84-91 350 corvette water pump. It's not a short, long, or any other thing people call sbc water pumps. Edelbrock make a good performance wp for the c4.

L83 and L98 pumps are the same. Picking a "performance pump" is I'd think a "crap shoot".

All that said, I had great luck using an Edelbrock Corvette water pump (L83/L98). The company has a good reputation and at least my experience was good. Not cheap however!!

Someone posted recently about some brand that had rebuilt/replaced impeller very inexpensively when they had a problem down the road. I don't recall the brand but E-brock might have been the brand.

You might be talking about Stewart. They take a stock pump apart and upgrade the impeller.

And yes , My pump runs in the reverse rotation of the Crank shaft pulley

Im so very interested to find just the " impeller " .. if I can find one , that would work great since Im a fully custom car fabricator and have a nice big press .. Ill press the shaft hub off

I see edlebrock is a possibility .. Thanks and I will contact them

I also spent a bit of Chinga ling having my water pump fully polished and would love to keep it

Can anyone give me there opinion here ...

The over heating problem is primarily at Idle speeds

would you replace the water pump impeller or rep;ace the 2 10 inch electric fans first

the fans that I received with the new 3 row aluminum radiator are an unknown CFM rating

Can anyone tell me what the minimum and recommended CFM flow is needed over all

note : I purchased the water pump off E-Blay .. who really knows which pump impeller they sent ..

thanks a ton Guys

You can't just change the impeller to make a regular water pump into a reverse rotation pump. The housing is different.

Describe your over heating at idle, these can go up to 235* before the fan turns on.

unbolt and remove the tin back plate from the back of the water pump; all will be revealed;

IF it's not a fully machined curved vane, an aftermarket improvement to a stamped sheet metal impeller is to pop rivet a disc to the back of the impeller, changing it from an "open" to "closed" impeller, a definite improvement; aftermarket kits are available;

a second option is to look at the available pulleys, both stock and aftermarket, and see if you can come up with a combo that "overdrives" the pump...quite the opposite of the usual aftermarket "underdrive" set up, but a great help at low vehicle speed, engine idle speeds; as an historical aside, this is exactly what the factory did with the V8 Monzas of the late 70's.

OP - it would be good if you had the old original pump to remove the cover on also to confirm that both the housing and the impeller is actually correct.

An eBay water pump and then spending money to polish before confirmation of product I'd think was foolish.

If you don't have the old/original that did cool then maybe someone on the CF could accommodate you with snapshots for confirmation.

Okay than , unfortuanately for me , I did not sight in the impeller on my new polished pump , and I did not save the old pump ...
the housings were exact though , did get that one done at least

would love to see a pic of a reversed impeller so ...

Does anyone have a pic .. I will owe you nice cold one if you have that pic

I also will call Edelbrock tomorrow ( Mon morn )

Default Im impelled to ask about my impelling impeller search

Hello this Eve fellow Vetter's ,

does anyone have a picture of a Reversed water pump Impeller

and any advise that can source someone who definitely sells just that impeller

after all your input , Im feeling very confident that one or both the wrong impeller and / or the non CFM rated electric 10 inch fans are responsible for the over heating 225 to 240 degree numbers that are a daily nightmare to me at this point

It would help a ton if I knew what the reversed Impeller looked like

Im also going to add that round flat disc to the rear of the impeller so to help matters .. some one mentioned it here in the threads .. sounds smart to add it

as we discussed , over heating is occurring at idle and low speeds and of course when I try to use my newly rebuilt AC system at any speeds

I will post my findings and again .. thanks a bunch to all of you

please add to my thread if you have any experience here

I guess missery breeds good company after all
