1994 ECM/PCM question
I found an ECM/PCM for my car because mine was stolen, the question that I have is:
Since it is from another car, which may or may not be a 6speed(which mine is), if I just plug it in to my car and try and use it, will it work? Does it have to be re-programmed?
There is a chance that the ECM is no good, in which case I would then
use it for a core, which brings to bare the question:
If I buy a new computer for my car, does it have to be programmed once I
receive it? If so, how?

'94 PCMs are certainly coded to a particular VATS key, and (possibly) also to a particular VIN. A 6-speed PCM is not the same as an A-4 program. A non-Corvette PCM program will not work in your car.
For these reasons I doubt that a used PCM of unknown origin will plug & play for you.
Re a correctly programmed replacement, why do you not contact your local GM dealer? It sounds like you need enough stuff that you are going to working closely with one somewhere along the line anyway - may as well start making friends now.
If, for whatever reason, you cannot work through a regular service oganization, you might drop this guy a line: http://www.akmcables.com/
He deals in reprogramming and repairing PCMs commercially, and may be able to help put one together for you.
Good luck
The reason I don't go to the dealer yet is due to the fact that the PCM goes for $220 and $150 to program it correctly once I have they have it in. It does not come from GM programmed and the dealer charges here to program it.
I am going to contact akm cables and see what they have to say.
