a friend and i are about to replace my opti, any suggestions for a 93 would be appreciated. (my friend has replaced an opti in his firebird and is also a vette brother). you just never know of any surprises in there. thanks :)
i have done this several times and its pretty straight forward.. make sure to line up the drive. i would also check the water pump now would be the time to change it. i also took a peice of vacc tubing about 6 feet long and ran it up under the finder and put a open end fuel filter on it. this will let the opti breath and not pull in water. don't know if it will help but from the looks of the inside of the opti i took off it can't hurt. robert
Replace the water pump and make sure you remove all the gasket material before putting on the new ones. Use a universal joint on the middle bolt on the drivers side.
good advice. actually i had the opti replaced 2 months ago when the water pump failed so thats new too. the hose trick, i did the very same thing already with the exception of the filter...great idea!
it was replaced by a mechanic in gnaw bone indiana. yes im serious. i wont let anyone touch my car anymore. cant trust anyone. these guys looked straight out of Deliverence :)

Started pulling off my waterpump last night. Will a universal joint let me get to the last bolt without having to remove the pulley on the power steering pump?

Yes, it should. If I remember right, I used both a u-joint as well as a swivel.
What sealer, if any, do you use between the water pump and gasket or betweeen the gasket and block? What kind is best? Glock94, how is your car recovering?
we got her running yesterday.. its so good to have her back. we used a sealent specifically used for coolant applications. we also replaced the thermostat. we think it froze up after drying out over a period of several days. the only real problems we had is we bent the screw on the pulley puller (ended up sawing it off) and we accidentally got the plug wires wrapped around the belt. all is good now :)
