Default Timing Help!!

Hey guys

My timing chain snapped off about a year ago on my 86 vette and my mechanic got it replaced and ran again. Today I was just curious to check with an inductive timing light what degree I am running (expecting 6°BTDC). I cranked the engine up and aimed the light at the balancer and found that the marker was about two centimeters away from the timing plate? Is that normal? Doesnt need timing adjustment? The car seems to run normal.
Please help
Thank you

Should be around 20* advance at idle when the EST connector is plugged in. When the EST connector is not plugged in, it should be 6*.

Is true if I advance it to 8°BTDC, I do get a little more low end torque?

It is car specific... you might also get a little ping and activate the computer to pull timing. Try it and see.
