can any one tell me exactly where the security relay is Located on my 84 C4 L83 cross fired Vette
someone mentioned it was next to the ECM behind the panals on the passenger side
I cannot see ( in limited viewing ) any relay except for the turn signal relay
I do see a few behind the center upper panel ( the so called management center )

I am not the original owner and received the Vette with no security clicker or any way to arm or dis arm it but had no issues electrically till last week .. all happened instantly with no warning of any kind

this story is a bit winded but the bottom line is ... I am all of a sudden left with no positive signal to the relay and fuel pump and a positive 3.6 amp draw with the key off

it suddenly developed a 3.6 amp constant drain on my new optima battery with the key off

naturally I disconnected the entire system via any and every relay plug and any other plug ... no luck

a living nightmare to say the least

what I have already done

replaced the

light switch
ignition switch
all head light relays
turn signal relay
fuel pump relay
wired a direct fan switch
tail lights to Led's
battery to an Optima red top
replaced all wiring and fuseable links coming off the starter
replaced the starter with a reduction unit
replaced both battery terminals
had the digital dash rebuilt and converted to LED's
rebuilt the alternator and replaced the regulator

am I skewed or what

any help is good
cheers

By "security relay" I assume you mean the starter interrupt relay. It is located next to the blue chime module behind the DIC.

The security system is activated by locking the doors. It is deactivated by unlocking the door with the key (there is a switch on the key cylinder).

Not sure what that means exactly ... however , the car cranks just fine but has no positive signal to the fuel pump relay and of course to the fuel pump itself
does that mean that Im looking in the wrong place to find out why Im getting no power to the pump

Your can never had any type of security "clicker" or FOB.

Cliff mentioned how the security system is armed and disarmed.

Thanks for both of you Guys , Cliff and RollaMo
I now have the clicker issue resolved .. many thanks

can you point me to the alarm relay,s exact location
Ill disconnect it so it will be taken off of my bucket list of things that may cause my 3.6 AMP draw and the lack of fuel pump power which are still alive and well

still desperate d but more knowledgeable

Lawrence

If in fact the car cranks normally the starter interrupt relay is not your problem..

Start by checking for power at the pump fuse, and power at terminals D and E of the relay, if you have power when you try to start then you need to check at the pump.. If not check that the relay operates when you try to start. If not check for power on terminal C of the relay from the ECM..

I would also suggest that instead of throwing parts at it, you invest in an FSM..

First thing I would check is fuses, then spark. If the fuel pump runs for prime, but not for cranking, I'd suspect (and then test) the pick up coil. Hence the checking for spark.

Okay than , oh yes the car cranks just fine and as you noted ... I checked the spark ... it,s all fine but will not fire up and run ...
unless The fuel pump relay is jumped

remember : this all started instantly with no warning
My new optima became entirely drained / dead as a door nail in 24 hours
or so , I instantly had it checked ... all good there
than I checked and found a 3.6 amp draw with the key off
I had the alternator completely rebuilt with a new fuel pump relay
No Luck - still a draw
I already mentioned all the renew's and unplugged all that I could - no go
still a draw and no signal to the fuel pump - so I jumped it and added a physical on off switch in the wheel well and of course jumped the fuel pump relay to the battery direct

GT, how do I say this nicely? It looks to me like you're out of control.

It beats not being able to drive it while the nessasary information is gathered to fix it right.

I have no idea what the problem is, however, I would check all grounds and make sure everything is clean.

Congrats GT on making the move to a C4. My first C4 was also an 84 way back in 89. It appears considerable investment has been made on your Vette and overall it appears to be pretty clean.
