Default dyno tune results

well might as well post it here too :)
been burning my own prom's and went to the dyno to use their wideband O2 to get things closer.
first pull and final result are on this graph (was pretty close to begin with below 5200rpm made some good gains above that though)

good question tntcorvette,
the solid roller cam would allow that kind of rpm, but to make more power up there would require some monster size heads on a 406ci engine. (learnt that one the hard way with the old 195AFR heads, they max'd out at 350HP around 5300rpm and it stayed there to 6000rpm).
I like driving on the street so 7000rpm would rarely be used, I prefer a redline of 6500-6800rpm, as it is now I think the WOT shift point should be 6300rpm.
maybe this winter I'll pull the heads off and port them some more.

Learned that many years back myself. There is more to heads than flow numbers. Velocity becomes your enemy as it is very restrictive when too high. Then figure with a 406 you need 16% larger ports to keep the same port size to cube ratio as a 350 with 190cc heads. This come to needing 220cc heads to have a 406 on even ground cube for cube with the 350 w/190's. It's never quite that simple, but this simplification makes it clearer how easy it is to go with too small a head on a big cube engine.

BTW are you still pulling through the 86 MAF?

tntcorvette,
I'm pretty far from Chicago (mid-east IN) I go to muncie dragway.
DOH, you caught me on the rpm, I forgot to have him run it up to 6500rpm, I started with the shift light set at 6000 just to be safe and fully intended to go to 6500 once it was safe. but I must have been too preoccupied with burning prom's and spaced changing the shift light. I already had the rev-limiter set to 6600rpm, but from the looks of things I'd say it wouldn't have made anymore HP really.

LT401,
I agree, it might take more than 220's to get max HP from a 406ci at 6500-7000rpm (I've seen 383's with 220 heads crank good HP).
and yes I'm still using a gutted MAF so unless I go to speed density I think I'm getting close to the limit on HP.

wish I'd put the dyno graph with the 195 heads on there for comparison, it gained everywhere with the 210 heads, even at 2500rpm it made 20 ft lb more torque
RJ

Yup, I had the same results. Initially I had 190 AFR's from my 350 on my 401, it was making more power across the board even with 220's.

LT401Vette,
I checked out your home page, very impressive!
makes me want to go porting on 210's :yesnod:
(I thought about it before putting them on, now I wish I had done it)
still I do like the way the torque curve looks right now, nice and flat. maybe a little porting, enough to bring it to 500 at the crank maybe? but not right now.
I do forsee a problem for my combo with more power though. with the gearing I have (trannie and rear) I'm probably going to be going thru the trap's at 6000+rpm in 4th now (with the additional 20-25hp I've picked up). so unless I get some power around 7000rpm (or bigger tires) I'll be to the point of having to shift into 5th.
guess I'll have to make a choice, my goal at the start was to go 12 @ 118mph on street tires (I'm sure I'll get that now) and be autocross and track day worthy.
Or go for even more power with all the cost's that might bring up.
