Default Brake upgrades and wheels

Gotta a burning question: I'm coming up on brake work and I'd like to upgrade because I don't get a feeling of confidence from the standard brakes my Vette is equipped with. Will a Gran Sport or Z06 upgrade fit under my stock '94 17x 8-1/2 sawblades? The thing is, the previous owner put new F-1's and did the chrome wheel exchange just before I bought the car and everything is new. How big can I go without having to upgrade the wheels? Thanks a million in advance :seeya !

Electro Dynamics makes an affordable conversion kit to allow use of the ZO6 front rotor/caliper on the C4. Their site is at http://www.electro-dynamics.com/

From what i've been seening on the board:
GS and ZR1 will fit under the sawblabes with out any mods.
The C5 system with fit under the A-molds.

This weekend I'm upgrading to the C5 system. with A-Mold rims. I'll try putting on the sawblades to see if they will clear.

Stay tuned...

The GS/ZR1 upgrade and the C5/Z06 are two diffrent callipers. The C5 callipers are stronger and have more pad area. I think it was worth the investment upgrading to the Z06 setup. I also changed to SS hoses at the same time. The Z06/C5 upgrade will not fit behind the sawblade wheels.
Good luck,
C44EVER

C5 brakes will not work under the stock sawblades. There's to much wheel material on the back side. I believe VBP now has a wheel adapter to move the wheel out, but I've NEVER been a fan of those. The GS brakes will work.

Here's the sites that Jeff Kopp created to explain the two options:

:) Wow! Thanks for the replies everyone! I think I'm going to end up going the GS route for now. I'd rather put the $4k the super-zoomy brakes and the then necessary wheels and tires would run into a fund for the engine, and get away for around a thousand now. I agree about the wheel spacers... I don't wanna trade mickey moused PITA for another! Thanks again everyone
