Check engine messing with me, help
hey c-4 fans, i got a 1985 vette that when i first start it the check engine light will come on, just sputters and wont take gas, i turn it off and restart it and everything is fine 0 to 60 real fast, can drive 5 miles or 50 miles and will do the same thing, no rime or reason, i checked codes once and it showed maf sensor, but what i understand if its bad i loose power while driving and thats not the case, once i restart it it runs great, any clues people, thanks for any feed back, by the way im a first time poster.

Any codes being set? There's a process to use a paperclip in the odbc plug to read it or go to a dealer or parts store like Autozone and have them read the code. Once you have the code, then you have a starting point. It may be cryptic initially but it's a starting point.

without more info, could be a lot of things....try the paperclip jump on your aldl....count the flashes, it'll tell you the codes if any you have....a loose fuel line to your pulsator by the fuel pump can cause this...initial power up of the pump blows the line out in the tank....shutting it off then reinserts the line into the pulsator....if you've have the pump out recently, i'd look there....good luck...
