I have a 1985 with a stock 350. I recently purchased a set of Edelbrock 6061 aluminum heads. A friend has a set of comp cam gold 1.6 roller rockers that I can have. They are self-aligning, can they be used with my set up?
I am going to run the stock cam until I can find someone to install the cam since its a job that I have never done and am afraid to tackle.
........ Should be fine ... its always a good idea to check all your valve clearances (rocker to spring and retainer to valve seal) when changing lift (1.6:1 ratio) , but the change is very slight on a stock lift cam ... you should , however , check for correct push rod length when switching from slipper rockers to full rollers ... the Crane Golds are among the best aluminum rockers out there ... and you got 'em at the best possible price ........... self-aligning rockers use NO guide plates and are recommended for hydraulic cams only

It is a new installation so I will use new pushrods. My 85 is hydraulic flat tappet, so I assume that I should be ok?

His rockers are Comp cams , not Crane Golds...I agree that he will probably need different length push rods from stock, when you change ratio you usually have to use a different length ...WW
Check to be sure that the bigger lifter body/higher lift does not put the rocker into the valve covers. The drip tabs on the older cast covers can be an issue.
if your heads have large round holes where the push rod passes through you can use either guide plates or self aligning rockers;
if your heads have narrow slots where the push rods pass through, these narrow slots serve the same purpose as guide plates and you should not use self aligning rockers
