The only problem with Kurt's kit is they needed to design a different boot for the shifter. Since it extends the bottom of the shifter down, it eventually tears the rubber boot.
Since mine is out of the car right now, I'm going to get the Hurst shifter. You really don't need to worry about the lockout mechanism. The later C4's didn't get them and they are just fine. Hurst didn't have a firm production date when I installed the Kurt White kit. Now that they are out, I'm changing over.
I have had a Ripper Shifter in my 92 for 2 years. Never missed the reverse lockout. Besides a little buzz noise at 3500 RPM +, the shifter has been magnificent. Nice short shifts, and once the shifter reached it's first birthday, the shifter effort became not noticable. Either the springs have relaxed, or I've gotter stronger.
Anyhow, don't worry about the reverse lockout. It is something you will never miss. :seeya

I've had the Hurst in my car for a year and even though I didn't have the reverse lockout, it's pretty hard to get into reverse. The shorter stick increases the force needed to engage it into reverse.
