Just removed cat. converters during Borla exhaust installation and now "Check Engine Soon" alert pops up on display. Diagnostics showed emissions error as expected when C.C.'s removed. Is there any electronic bypass method available to shut off THIS ERROR warning display ONLY? Would like it operational for other alerts if possible. I know good old black electrical tape camouflages the alert nicely, but doesn't blend well.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks...Ken...........'96 Conv. LT-4
Did you reinstall the O2 sensors? If not, that's most likely why you are seeing the SES light. You could try welding bungs into the exhaust pipes just below the exhaust manifolds and see if that stops the error codes.
I would think that a custom tune could turn off the error codes related to the now missing cats, but taping off the message on the DIC or removing the bulb will keep you from seeing a SES light that would be for some other error code.
I would assume that you don't have to have the car smog checked?

Thanks for the prompt reply. No inspections required on cars, but kept all original parts if inspections kick in again. Seems to me that the sensors must see different reading and be in a range to NOT display an error. Faking out the computer would do the trick, but how???
O2 simulators are the only option that I know of besides custom tunes. Custom tuning is actually the best way to go.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Where do you get the "O2 Simulators" and how are they installed? Might have to check with the local Corvette Club to find out the best shops for a custom tune.
