Default fuel system cleaning

Anyone used any kind of fuel cleaning kit with adapter direct to the rails on the TPI. Understand Gm makes one where you disconnect your fuel pump fuse and someway adapt the cleaner through the rails?

Any other tried and proven ideas accepted, thanks

I find techron does as well as the gm "cleaners" for the most part. Warning though on the techron, if you haven't used techron before you want to change the fuel filter you use it. It will clean out the tank, lines etc and that gets trapped in the filter and can clog up on you. So have a filter handy before using it and change the filter after a day of running it.

Are you having fuel issues? Wondering why you're wanting to do this other than you want to. All gasoline has detergent in it. Techron is chevrons name for theirs. Unless you're having injector problems, I don't see the need for this.

Some use Techron with every fill; some every 1K miles, or any mileage they chose as a preventive
measure. It is your vette, do with it as you please. (No need to change the fuel filter, most tanks and injectors are 'clean'.)

You screw the adapter into the Schrader valve on the fuel rails. The can of cleaner is pressurized and you run the car off the can until it runs out.

3M also makes their own version of this (it might be rebranded for GM):

Never wasted my time with cleaner in a can stuff. I change fuel filters and take the injectors out to have them tested and cleaned with Jon at FIC and be done with it for 3 years. If they are stock Multecs, toss them anyways.

A few yrs ago I had a friend w/a completely stock 91 Lincoln town car. It never had good maintenance and the brand of gas was never considered. Well he had multiple codes and the CEL was on constant. Engine was the original one and the car had 209k on it.

I pulled the intake and everything was somewhere between 50% to 100% plugged w/carbon. Only thing that wasn't and that showed shiny metal was the intake ports between the injector and the intake valve. The valves had a little carbon on the back side but not much.

Once I cleaned his intake and replaced the EGR parts he was back on the road and his mpg was back where it ought to be.

Point being.. modern fuel has adequate cleaners in it. Even the cheap stuff.
As for my cars.. I like to advance the timing for power and run Shell 93 or some other top tier fuel.

I'd suspect from your story that the fuel was cleaning the portion it hit. Since we don't know if it used 100% Top Tier, we can't even begin to speculate as to whether there was any real additional benefit to using Top Tier fuel or not.

Not sure what to think. If 93 octane us 93 octane and not 85 octane, what difference would it make to the timing? My car was set up to run 93 and the spot check data logs don't show much of a difference when it comes to 93 octane from one station as opposed to the other. I usually run my tank to almost dry so the fill up is pretty much from that station and not a mix.

That's exactly right.

May not matter from one station to another. I think wydopnthrtl is saying that with confidence that he has a quality, 93 octane fuel, he can exploit that with extra timing, w/o as much (or any) risk of detonation.
