Default What Next?

Because of health reasons, I just got the chance to get the 1986, with 30,000 miles, that I bought in late June up on a rack. Not good!!! First of all, cooling system presure test revealed coolant leaking from a bolt in the left front of the intake manifold. New gasket time. Even worse, oil appears to be leaking from the back of both heads at the rear of the block where the heads meet the block. More new gaskets. I was hoping that this would be the vet that I could just jump in and cruise without major problems. Bought it from the son of a good friend whom I trusted. Oh well, my own fault, should have checked it closer. Lesson learned. Anyone have any idea of what it migt cost to have these repairs made. I did not even ask the shop manager after discovering the problems. Just wanted to get home and check here first. Thanks dmac

Bummer! It depends where you take it. It shouldn't cost but a couple of hundred to pull the heads and intake and replace the gaskets. Hopefully, they won't find anything else wrong. It shouldn't take more than a day to do either. Sorry to hear about your health. I hope things look better in the future for you!

Sharky, thanks for the reply, but I have already gotten two estimates for replacing the intake and head gaskets, both are around $1,000.00. I have to have it done, so I will have a total of 13 grand into the car, (including purchase price). The rest of the car is immaculate and I have the orginal window sticker, customer sign off sheet, etc., so I think it will still be worth it, once it is done. It is just frustrating to sit here and look at it and not be able to drive it. Anyway, once it is done it should run correctly and the roughness should disappear as I certain that it is sucking air through the intake manifold. It is do different to work on, compared to the 81 I sold. Still getting a code 34, but am going to wait until the rest is done before replacing the MAF sensor.
