Default New Computer: Haltech Platinum Sport GM

I'm looking at replacing my computer with something more up to date. Does anyone have experience with the Haltech Platinum Sport GM? It sells itself as a plug and play replacement and lists 89 TPI as supported. The only caveat seems to be support for automatic which isn't a concern for my 6speed.

Cost is $1359, seems expensive.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey but ODB1 is difficult to support modifications. It's at the shop getting test fitted with the GM module, should hear something back today.

Initial startup with the new computer was successful, they're tweaking the tune now and then will get it on the dyno.

I run an aftermarket ECU as well....the 85 unit was worse.

Mine is self learning....is this GM unit self learning?

Nice..... I looked at the stats on it....designed for 86-89 Corvette....uses the same plug in type for the 165 unit.....so it is a nice upgrade for you and others running the 165 units

Yeah, if it works it's an easy and functional unit. Until I hit my 1000hp goal it should work well, then I'll upgrade to another system.

Forgive me if this is stupid, but can you program custom rear-end gearing, or are you stuck with stock?

Also, is this truly plug and play with the original harness without modifying or adding new sensors etc? Specifically I thinking about my 87, I have a de-screened maf, the manual says it isn't needed, so what do I need to do in place of it or do I just unplug it?

Sorry for the stupid questions, the only thing I know about ecu's is I want a 21 century technology one that does the shiznit without me having to do much....

Default Ecu

[QUOTE=856SPEED;1589560221] What ECU are you using in your 85. Was this unit a plug/play or did you have to rewire in order for it to work. I too have an 85 and would like a better ECU.TIA

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...85+ECM+UPGRADE

Had it professionally installed at a performance shop in town; the Holley HP now rests where the stock ECM was located; no need for the stock ECM any longer; it is a primitive thing and it doesn't control much of anything on the 85 as far as dash cluster. I did away with my cruise control however, but in 14 years of ownership; never used it once with the 6 speed upgrade. It is designed (this particular part number and application) for GM TPI cars however it does convert your system to MAP vs. MAF if you have a MAF system. Some my find that unattractive; in my case, I find it VERY attractive. No more MAF codes, no more hunting down a one off MAF sensor made only for the 85, no more worries about a burn off module; another one off for 85; no more SEL; runs fantastic! and the best part ; it is self learning (a/f, timing, etc.) and I can tune it myself; check out my USB port in the fuse box nicely tucked away in one of the pictures. Holley supplies the software as well.

It was not "plug and play" but it does have it's own nice wiring harness and is not a cheap upgrade as you can imagine. It comes with its own sensors as well as well as a new 02 sensor for the system. The throttle response is great; seems to run great either cold or warm; no difference......also any future mods, i.e.; new engine, forced induction, etc. etc.; ready to tune it myself; the ECM is capable of whatever; just give it the inputs.....just a better car now......

I don't think you can simply unplug your MAF unless you're ok with the codes that will be thrown because of it. Descreening doesn't affect much, I previously had done that to my onw as well.

With the Haltech, it is plug and play but you also ditch the MAF in favor of wideband. Final tune and dyno run is today so I'll update how well it worked out. I expect all functionality (gauges, cruise control, to be retained).

Car is all put together now and dynoed in at 339rwhp. I had hoped for more, but I guess it'll take more mods. ;-)

Sorry, I meant if I had the haltech, would I just unplug the maf?

Also besides the Haltech, what other things did the shop have to install for you to make your ECU work? Did they have to install a new bung and wide band sensor or did they remove the existing 02 sensor and add wide band?

Trying to determine the full scope of what I would need if I did this.

Not bad at all; similar to mine; what exactly are your mods beyond the ECM?

383 and a bunch of this and that. Other than replacing the TPI that I wanted to keep there probably isn't much more I can get out of it without forced induction.

Yes, the TPI intake is choking that 383.....I learned that...had the Edelbrock runners and base....not much improvement

89vette, your right hand wiper blade can be adjusted to "park" a little better by removing the small screen just below your left hand wiper blade. You'll see the adjustments for both the RH and the LH wiper blades there on the output shaft of your wiper motor.
