EASE or Diacom

I sent you an email with the price for your 95 ZR1, $350 for OBD1 with OBD2 cable plus approx $10.00 UPS shipping - (10% rebate : $35.00 after 45 days). I also attached an overall review with OBD1 screen captures from use on my 88 OBD1 vette. The OBD1 and OBD2 systems are not compatible and it requires buying either an Ease GM OBD2 scan tool ($350) or an Ease Generic OBD2 scan tool ($350) to scan OBD2 vehicles.
KJ,
Post #1. Congratulations on joining the Corvette Forum!
You didn't say which version of Ease scan tool you bought. I'm assuming you purchased the Laptop version GM OBD1 for your 84. I cannot say for certain, but I doubt that what you have will work on your HP handheld. Ease makes a WinCE version for handhelds and a version for Palm Pilots, but both of those are OBD2 and your 84 is OBD1 so unless you purchased a product I'm not aware that Ease sells for OBD1 you must have the laptop version.
Your question regarding "...how in the *^%$#)^#do i read it?" leaves some room for error in answering. If you are connected properly and scanning the vehicle you go to the main parameter grid and select the parameters you want to monitor/record like TPS (Throttle Position Sensor voltage) and O2 sensor voltage Engine RPM. You can view the current vehicle running values in the grid format, or in meter boxes, or in chart mode.
I am emailing you my Ease html review also. Feel free to email me directly and I will answer other questions as best I can.
As to Bay area mechanics I cannot say. I'm sure someone will have an answer for you. If you make it over to Sacramento there is an outstanding shop in Rancho Cordova (greater Sac.) called "Corvette Care". It is run by Keith Becky and some other guys all of whom are honest, dependable, and knowledgeable. Really great people to do business with.
Anyone in Northern CA who wants to swing by can let me know they are coming to Sacramento, CA and I'll be glad to meet them to discuss Corvettes, Corvette repair, and the use of Ease scan tools.

After 200+ days of watching from the sidelines you have 6 posts in short order. Good for you. Not a wall flower any more.
There are often some good automotive classes at the CA community colleges. Sometimes you don't have to take the class. Just go to the campus bookstore and buy the textbooks. Then use the books at home.
There are several very good books out concerning ECM/PCM diagnosis which apply to the use of scan tools. I recommend the "How to Tune & Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection" by Ben Watson. It is available from Amazon.com and at most retail booksellers for about $17. That book is perfect for beginners and experienced alike. It starts with simple explanations of electrical circuits as used in Chevrolet motor vehicles and explains the whys and what fors of Chevrolet circuits, relays, and other aspects of the Fuel Injection system. Eventually it walks you through to the ope/closed loop system and fuel maps. It also has some helpful diagnosis sections similar to those in the GM Factory manuals.
If you have the factory manuals you can go to the diagnosis sections and follow the step by step diagnosis charts using your scan tool. Even when there is no known problem, you can always practice using the GM charts to get a feel for what to do on your 84.
Feel free to email me directly with any questions concerning use of your Ease scan tools. I have the Pro GM OBD1 and Generic OBD2 versions as well as the Personal GM OBD1 & OBD2 versions. Always more than happy to answer questions. I can capture screens and email illustrated answers.
