Default EASE or Diacom

Which is recommened?

I have Craig's but I don't have a cable yet, but if I were to buy a package I am presently leaning toward EASE, mostly because of the interface.

-=Jeff=-, would you happen to have a listing of what EASE will monitor? I'm looking to move away from Diacom and get a Windows based package. Thanks.:)

Just the 7165 if you don't mind. If I swap over to the 730 this winter I'll use datamaster.

Aaron,
I'd suggest EASE. Diacom has offered me zero support for years now. The EASE interface is a lot easier on the eyes, and offers the data in better formats.

Aaron71771,

If you decide to buy an Ease scan tool and order through me like Jeff did I'll get you a 10% rebate on your purchase price.

I'll be glad to send anyone who asks an html version of my own review covering use of the Ease GM OBD1 scan tool on my 88 vette. It includes screen captures from a scan session on my car. All of the major screens are shown in use on my vette. The Ease scan tools work on Palm Pilots, WniCe handhelds, as well as laptops.

Ease Tech Support is Toll Free for a year and excellent. After that the support is free by email. If anyone has any vehicle specific questions please feel free to ask me by direct email. If I can't answer it immediatly I know Ease Tech support will have an answer quickly.

Scorp, let me know if you need more info besides what jeff is sending you.

Basically does it do all these fields and more?

I want to move over to windows based software so that I can interpolate data between dyno runs, data logging, and chip burning.

scorp508,

I sent you an email with an attachment showing Ease in use on my 88 Z51 DN 4+3 coupe. I give a 10% rebate on Ease scan tool orders to anyone who orders through me. In your case, we might even be able to work a better deal if you can get a new Snap-On torque wrench from the old man. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

Yes, it does all of those fields and more. It can only do sensor data for sensors that are in the vehicle. OBD1 is much more limited than OBD2 so no OBD1 scan tool can give you the data an OBD2 tool can in use on an OBD2 vehicle. The Ease GM OBD1 scan tool will read out every sensor available for a GM OBD1 vehicle of the year it is hooked up to.

The Ease tool will display it in column format similar to that which you have posted, or in continuous chart format, or in digital box format. All of this is in the zip file I sent you by email. It will also record DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) and allow you to record snapshots and mark spots dynamically while scanning by using the Function keys. You can review these areas later in replay mode. With enough disk space you can record for hours.

Here is the most important selling point. The Ease GM OBD1 startup screen uses a graphic image of the front of a Yellow C4. Just like yours and mine.

Default Re: EASE or Diacom (Aaron71771)

Having used both, there is NO comparison. The Ease is not only Windows based, but the thing will record ALL the inputs for as long as your hard drive has enough space for. The old 133Mhz laptop had enough memory for 192 HOURS of recording time!

You can sort the Ease ANY way you want, and it's pretty intuitive once you get into it. JR can get you a good deal on it his Team website. Spend the extra $15-$20 bucks and get the OBD 1 and OBD 2 compatible system. That way, you can use it on any GM vehicle.

Default Re: (89BlackVette)

I'll be glad to send you more info. I'll email you a zip file with screen captures from my 88 coupe which is ODB1 just like your 89. Included in the zip file are the hardware requirements and my impressions of the tool in use on my vette. The zip file is about 600k due to the number of jpg files included. They are actual scans from my car though, so you can see what a real user has at hand.

There were 2 main reasons I chose an Ease scan tool.
1) GUI based and compatible with about every version of Windows available making it easy to upgrade.
2) Ease's 30 day no-questions-asked money back guarantee. If you don't think it is worth the price, send it back. You're out the shipping costs, but you don't get any grief from Ease about the purchase price refund.

I'm interested in Ease for a 95 (ZR-1)--OBDI with OBDII connector. Please email me your price. Would like the extra ability to use on OBDII cars as well. Thanks,
ted
