Default air filter box cover

I have a question on the air box cover on a 96 LT1/w-auto trans.

Have seen an air box cover with the backward scoop and filter vents
cut out. DOES THIS REALLY DO ANYTHING?

IF it does, how much difference?

Also what difference would it make to leave the scoop and just remove
the vents.

Appreciate your input. Putz

Allows more air to the filter. In the "ancient times" we would turn over the lid on the air cleaner to get more air to the air cleaner rather than the air limited going thru the snorkel.

I have always cut mine out to get the most air possible. This is a modification that benefits the engine, but you will not feel a seat of the pants difference.

Default air box

The reason I asked was that my car has a best of 13.903 et in the 1/4
mile and 99.83 MPH. Oh for just .17 miles per hour. Will just have to
wait for a cool day.

I understand that you always want more air, but I don't think that you
want more turbulance just more pressure. Was not sure what the scoop and baffles do.

tks Putz

The scoop is probably to keep out rain. The baffles just let the air in. I cut out all the baffles. I doubt it there is any turbulence created by cutting out the baffles. This is not going to get you the .17 seconds.

Tires will help.

No..... but with the air foil, TB by-pass, and cut lid, you can tell others how much HP you gained. You can make up any number you wish.
