Do I need to remove the bolt from the tensioner or just loosen it? The bolts loose now and it's not releaving presure. Is there another trick to it? :smash:
Don't loosen the bolt to the tensioner, that was my error too when I first tryed to remove the belt.
Put the square end of a 1/2" breaker bar into the square hole in the end of the tensioner arm and press the handle down to relieve pressure on the belt so it can be removed.
My large breaker bar wouldn't fit between the tensioner and the front frame member so I had to get a smaller and thinner breaker bar from Sears.
Tighten up the tensioner . a 1/2 wratchet or pull bar is all you need to put pressure on it to take the belt off the pully..
I am not a mechanic by any means and swapped the alternator in 20 mins flat.and it worked too !
