May need to replace the oil temp sensor. Have searched many threads. The oil temp sensor, located in the oil filter housing, provides both analog and digital readings to the CCM. Many threads indicate the analog needle usually reads low (¼" - ½" movement). My needle moves about ¼". Many threads indicate no change in readings after a sensor replacement.
I'm not concerned with the analog reading, as the digital reads 215F +/-. I just desire to have units work correctly on my vette.
My concern is I am badly crippled with arthritis. Getting under the vette is a real chore, so I need to have complete knowledge, and tools available, to prevent multiple trips under the vette. Yes, I can afford to have the sensor replaced, and I have sons that will perform the task, but I prefer to help myself, when possible.
This is the sensor and sensor location: (not my engine)
My question regards the position tab on the sensor. Note the black tab on the lower right sensor photo. How does that tab connect to the electrical connector? Is a tool (screwdriver, etc.) required to separate the connector from the sensor? Or, is it just a slip fit? Some members have posted that the filter housing is only reached by 'feel'.... true?

If you had the proper sensor socket you might be able to get to it from underneath reaching around the cat converter. It would be real easy to get to it if you take the cat off.
It's just my opinion that theres a good chance of breaking the new sensor if you can't get good, direct access to it. So if you take the cat out thats five (probably rusted on) nuts and one bolt that need to come out. Hopefully without breaking.

Thanks for the informative response, 8a8mfh. You have confirmed one of my concerns.... access is limited.
Now, does that position sensor tab create any difficulty in separating the sensor from the connector? I would think not, but just need to confirm.
Thats just the tab that engages with the plug. Usually a small screw driver or tough fingernail will help remove it.
Got it...... thanks again.... 8a8mfh
Seems like you replaced your oil temp sensor......
Would be interested to learn if your sensor had failed, or, was just reading 'low'? Did the analog/digital reading change after replacing the sensor?

LOL no, I've just done so much work under the car and thought what a pain it would be to replace that if needed. When I had the exhaust out I remember that being the time it was most accessible.

Many thanks for your responses. They were very informative. You must be the only forum member that has ever been concerned with the oil temp sensor, as you are the only member responding.
Based on the info you presented, my oil temp sensor will remain in place. The new sensor will be included with other spare parts, and factory manuals, for the new owner when I depart
