Ok, the rear end swap was supposed to be a 12 hour job, well now its turning into a 12 hour yesterday, 12 hour today, and probably the same tomorrow. The repair manual say to remove the support beam you need to gently pry it out. Are they crazy, gentle just doesn't work. I can almost get it out by sliding it all the way over and all the way back but it just won't budge. Anyone have any ideas that will save my sanity? I know it can't be that hard since everyone else seems to be able to do it. Anyway, guess I'll just wait for someone with some helpful tips before I break out the saw-zall :smash: Thanks :seeya
hmmm.......
it's very easy on my 89.
You have the 4 bolts out? 2 21mm in the back and 2 18mm on tranny?
a jack under the tranny to adjust accordingly? Watch the HEI dist when lowering the engine/tranny combo. Exhaust hanger unbolted? Maybe it's that sticky goo GM puts inbetween. WD40 worked for me in weakening that goo.
I guess since I'm pulling the rear, I'll just drop the rear down and pull it back far enough to drop the support beam. I just didn't want to to drop the rear and mess up something on the trans. I was thinking about pulling the tailhouse cover off and slide it back with the c-beam, since it has to come off anyway to change the speedo gears. But just dropping the rear sounds alot easier. thanks for all the advice.
