87 with 58K. I changed the plugs, wires, rotor and cap tonight. This was due to rough idles when cold. Seemed all original stuff.
The issue is the coil is arcing now, engine running great, the display flickers slightly. The coil wires arc no matter how positioned. I ohmed the red and white wires with the coil unplugged and it shows a dead short, should it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure you have a clean connection on the ground ring lug wire to the frame of the coil and the ground strap that contacts the frame of the coil.
Here's a good video showing coil replacement and a video showing coil resistance measurements. Your measurement from the Red wire to the White wire appears to be normal. Should be less than one ohm.
If you can't find the problem, reinstall the original cap and rotor.
This happened to me, when I replaced my factory coil with a Taylor coil. I replaced it with one from auto zone and that fixed the problem.
Well after that video I think I found the issue. I am stupid and did not reinstall the ground strap. I have a new coil and strap waiting for me at a whole $24. Thanks that video pointed out the obvious.
I will report back tonight with hopefully good news. BTW I will never. ever , ever change those plugs again 2.5 hours, every trick in the book, 14 scabs later.
