Problem this morning with the 89.
I start the engine it runs for a couple of minutes then it starts surging from 600rpm to 1500rpm and the cooling fan keeps kicking on and off, the canister purge solenoid is also clicking in and out. It will then settle down for a few seconds before doing this again.
I have checked for vacuum leaks and made sure all wires are connected there are no codes stored, but the SES does flash as the rpm goes up and down.
Any ideas would be welcome.
Yes I do get code 12 but no other codes are stored. It seems like the computer is sending info to the solenoid that controls thr EGR & the EECS at idle which is alowing massive amounts of vacuum loss, which results in an almost stall then it compensates by reving its self. Hopes this makes some sort of sence.
Sorry for the delay. On the back of the motor one of the bolts that holds the transmission on has a bunch of ground wires on it. Remove this bolt and clean the contact area then re-install. Also check your negative terminal on you battery. Sounds like you have a classic grounding problem. The ECM is grounded on the back of the motor as described above. .
