Default Vats

I noticed recently that the key bypass the PO of the car installed is no longer installed. I am guessing that when I was working on something I removed it and forgot to re-install it.

Now for the part I am unsure on. Could not having the correct resistor in the system cause the Speedometer to work incorrectly? The PCM has the correct speed (or so a shop says) but the speedometer likes telling me I am going 170-220mph all the time.

I have also lost it, and I no longer have any of the vats keys. The current key for the ignition is a J cut.

Did you accidentally switch the dash to metric?

No, but I wish it was that simple. I will double check anyway later.

Its set for MPH. It seems to be related to temperature, but I am unsure of that.

You didn't specify a year, but I assume it's 1990 or later since you mentioned a PCM. If you have the C68 HVAC system you can display the speed on the HVAC controller. As far as I know that speed comes directly from the PCM and the same speed should be going to the dash.

VATS only works when the ignition is first turned on. It can't affect the speed display.

I always forget that. Someday I will remember to add that information.
It's a 93 6 speed, with a 5.3L LS.

No it has manual climate control. I need to stop being lazy, and rewire the part that was in the engine harness, and replace the vacuum lines.

It is sounding more and more like a CCM issue.

What is left of vats is probably not working correctly. Antitheft was disabled in the 411 LS PCM, I bypasses the start enable relay after losing the key bypass. The security light, and sys flash at the same time.

So umm ya it has VATS issues.

Here is a short video of the issue. The LCD is hard to read at times. Speedometer is in MPH, car was in 6th gear.

Warning the audio is loud from driving with the top off.

Well today now that I had a chance to drive it with my new bluetooth scan-tool connected the speedometer is accurately reporting what the PCM has for speed. Not sure how to test that, but at least the problem was narrowed down.

I feel like this is a dumb question, but does it matter what wire goes to what pin on the VSS?
