Unfortunately chasing an intermittent is a bear as it could simply be one loose wire in a thousand. Do check the resistance on the key with a multimeter. Make sure the resistor is clean. On my LT1s I regularly clean the keys. It can be that easy or so very hard. Also spend some time doing a search for VATS in LT1s. I simply have forgotten what to listen for when it is a VATS problem. For instance with a VATS problem does the fuel pump prime or does it not.
In my 93 Camaro I have a hot start problem that is similar to your cold start problem. When I try and restart the car when it is hot I get nothing when the key is turned. Nothing at all. No light, no fuel pump; no click, just nothing. Luckily with a bit of patience somewhere between the 5th and 15th try the car will turn over like new and catch immediately. So it is a bit annoying but not a real problem. My thought is that somewhere there is a near short that is exacerbated by heat. But it is not worth chasing down.
Your car sounds strong! Enjoy it.
thanks for that. I'm going to focus on vats as everything i've read sounds like it.
ya its not to shabby but i was hoping it would have been a little faster. beating a stock c5 is nothing i should be complaining about though either.

ya mine wasn't timing. mine ended up being a few things. maf tables and housing, fuel supply and possibly coil/ecm. not that a couple of those would cause that but those were pretty much the things i changed to get it running right.

thank you.
I'm up to almost 1000 miles on it now and it seems to be running better and better the more miles i put on it. seems to be a little faster on pick up and top end then when i first got it running right.. not sure if thats possible but it seems like it. really slamming me back in the seat when i mash it at 60mph now. in the beginning it seems to be a dog at the higher speeds.
I have another lt1 in the garage i was going to use for my kit car i'm building but ... maybe 383 for the vette ... maybe lol i got spanked really bad... i mean really bad by a friends g8 a couple weeks ago. blew by me like i was on the side of the road not matter how we raced. I want a rematch lol but need a faster car first lololol
So what exactly was the problem ? I'm guessing the cam was off by half a tooth...
sorry i missed this question. no the cam was not off a tooth. that's what i paid $600 to a local shop to tell me.. they were wrong. stupid shop caused me a lot of work and wasted money when it had nothing to do with the issue. it was tune, plus i changed out a bunch of electrical stuff and it all cleared up. the last thing done that cleared up the hesitation and bog was swapped out the injectors.

Well its certainly great news you have it fixed. I can see how and why they made the mistake they did. If the exhaust valve opens before the end of the power stroke then fiery combustion gas will exit into the manifold or header pipes, and they will glow cherry red in a very short amount of time. Anyway, at least its fixed.

ya i can see how they made that call and probably not justified for me to be as bent about it as i was. but the $600 and their claim that they built 1000hp motor all day and new the issue just bothered me.
