Default Electric water pumps?

What are the advantage and disadvantages of an electric water pump on a LT1 stock engine? The reason for asking I am looking at a '93 listed. On my '93, I installed a DeWitt single core radiator and spiel fans for better cooling. I have not talked to the guy yet, waiting for a reply for a phone number.

Do they hold up better than a stock pump?

Electric water pumps always run at the same speed. They don't care if you are idling. The LT4 in my Impala has one and it makes around 525 HP and it never overheats. Idling for hours in 90+ degrees on the Power Tour never got the water temp over 170. I've got one for the Vette and will put it on when I redo the engine this fall. The Maziere that I'm using is 50,000 miles and 6 years old with no issues at all.

Main benefit is that it gets the water pump drive off the timing chain....

I have had a Meziere on my 92 since 2007. 25,000 street driven miles on a 480RWHP 383 LTX in that time frame.

I use the stock radiator in my car.... runs 170*F at cruising speed in the summer. With the AC on it gets up to 220*F or so stopped in traffic (DC traffic is the worst ever) but the fans bring it right down.

That Meziere elect pump literally just quit on me last Thursday on my way to work.... Kinda sucked but things do wear out and I feel like I got my money out of it.... going to send it back to Meziere and have it rebuilt.

Drawbacks are they are pricey and you have no warning when they let go. But they help with cooling big time and you gain a little power using them

I pulled a spark plug and the car is currently running AC Delco R43TS. Looks like the TS is longer than the T in taking a look. Is one a better application or the other? If not, I will order a set of R45TS. Thanks,

One drawback of the electric pump is the current draw. It’s not an issue on a car with a healthy charging system. However, in the rare event you throw the belt, or the alternator fails, you can drive quite a ways on the battery alone with the stock mechanical pump drive. With the electric pump, you won’t be able to go as far. It’s not a huge negative. But a negative nonetheless.
