Has anyone installed the bbk/edelbrock throttle body? my oem is sticking and I have cleaned it many times, Im thinking of replacing it with the 52mm bbk.
engine is stock, opened air cleaner lid, will do cat-back system soon.
52mm BBK TB here too. The old bellows was very difficult to get over mouth, so had to heat it with hair dryer to get it to stretch. Later, I bought a new on and it worked perfectly over the TB mouth. My TB works perfectly, but some have posted they have had difficuties. My difficulty was that I bought one off ebay. The drivers side lever was entirely different than on my stock one. I wound up spending alot of extra money on Lokar stainless control cables. But they look and work great. good luck
I bought a 58 mm BBK and send it back thought the quality was crap! You can see light all around the butterflies with the throttle closed. Get your GM on and check that out You see NO light around the butterflies. I was going to looking into a Holley one to see how good there quality was. I know I installed a Holley throttle body on a kids Honda and I saw the same thing light around the butterflies but I still want to see on for our cars.
Be aware that BBK/Edelbrock is not the same as BBK.
I have BBK/Edelbrock; required making special bushings for throttle & cruise cables; required removal of one vacuum fitting & plugging TB opening; required heatiing (I boiled mine!) air inlet duct.
Casting is very rough; no CNC here!
I would rather I'd had my OEM 48mm TB worked on by DKoldos (DKoldos@aol.com). He can install bigger butterflies, roller bearings & seals, for less than a new BBK or BBK/Edelbrock.
I went with a 52mm BBK\Edelbrock and was very dissapointed. I had to play with the idle adjustment and center the butterfly valves to get it to work without sticking. The overall quality is garbage in my opinion. I really wish I had went with the Holley. The Holley is machined aluminum as opposed to the cast unit that BBK makes. The difference in quality is obvious, but I didn't know at the time how bad the BBK really was. For the little extra that it costs, definately go with the Holley.
That's why I sent m BBK back. I still want to see the Holley like I said I installed one on a Honda and it wasn't all that much better You shouldn't see light around the butterflies and I did on the Holley to but that was for a Honda again. So I don't know yet what I'm going for I know you can get a Lingenfelter Throttle body to. (JD 383) has a Lingenfelter motor with one on it and it looks sweet had has had No problems with it. I would check there web site out to. Send back the BBK one

LPE can do the same. They can turn your 48mm into a 52mm for about $250 I believe, check out thier website.
I have a Holley 52mm. I wouldn't have bought it but I got it for $230 :D
It is certainly a very pretty unit. It has it's share of small issues, but nothing that isn't easily corrected. I've heard war stories on the BBK fit and finish. Some people have luck with it, others don't.
