I changed out my water pump today. I was excited I had finished....
I added the coolant and started her up.....the temp just kept rising and rising and rising.... I tried buying a new thermostat, bleeding the air by the thermostat housing, flushing the coolant out of the radiator, and it still is doing the same.
Question? Bad water pump?
my car never overheated before the pump puked. Is there any way to tell if the pump is actually working or not? I hate to take that thing back off and get another but I think im running out of options....any ideas?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't take this as an insult, but did you attach the coupling from the old waterpump to the new one. Also, it sounds like your new thermostat may not be opening.

You can check to see if it is pumping. When it's cold open up the coolant reservoir. Fire it up and you should see a small trickle coming in from the side. Rev it a little and it should become a decent stream. If not than it's not pumping. BTW, this will work regardless of if the thermo is open or not.
I don't think your pump could be "frozen" or you'd be hearing some pretty bad noises. The pump is driven off the timing chain, so it would have a hard timing freezing without breaking something else.
I would go back and double check that your drive thingy is in place. I know it sounds stupid, but you can't take anything for granted. I couldn't line up two freaking dots apparently when I installed my gear drive. I don't know why my car ran so bad :smash: :smash:
There is a coupling that attatches the back of the waterpump to the engine. It has to be removed from the old waterpump and installed on the new one before reassembly. This coupling drives the waterpump.
hmmm, does anyone have a pic? I dont remember anything on the back of the pump that comes off. The only thing I took off the old pump was the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat housing. That is most likely my problem if its not obvious. Im happy if thats the problem....Ill look at the old one again today. ANy pics would be great.

hey nathan plemons, exactly how fast of a 12 are you running with 330 rwhp thats pretty impressive? what kind of tires?
12.87 @ 112.79 is my personal best on my street tires. That's also on one of my typical lousy 60' times. The best I've ever done in the 60 department is 1.91. I'm pretty sure there was more in it, but I never found it. After the heads I hope to be able to run somewhere in the 12's without really trying that hard.
