What might I be looking at for a rebuilt transmission for my 88 automatic? I guess it would be rebuilt.
Also - if you have a potentially complicated engine problem that takes quite a bit of diagnosing is it normal for a mechanic to charge for this, and how long could this diagnosing take and how high ($$) might it run? I know these are odd questions but I need to know.
Where have you been. I haven't seen you and your industrial size palm tree air freshener for months.
I just got mine back from a complete rebuild. It cost $1500. However, I also had thrown in a shift kit, stall converter, and some other heavy duty parts which brought the price up around $400.

Hey Chuck hows it going?! Thanks for the reply. So is $1500 potentially normal for a complete rebuild? I'm not talking extra stuff right now. By what you said that sounds high. Anyone else have experience in this?
The estimate on my rebuild is $1500-2500, depending on wether or not my current tranny has no "unknown" problems. That includes stall converter and shift kit.

Re: Transmission cost etc...? (dbwade36)
Fortunately when I yanked my transmission all I had to do was replace the front seal, a totaly of about 9 dollars for the seal and retainer to hold it in.
