Default Open headers..

How loud will this be? It may be a few days untill I am able to take my car to the exhuast shop to get the rest of the exhuast done (after the motor is in/running).. In the mean time I would like to drive the car to work (less then 2 miles, no traffic/cops). As well as the trip to the shop. Think I could get away with it in town?

Is it going to be driveable as far as noise goes? They are LPE full length headers. I used to drive with a gutted cat and no rear y-pipe/mufflers, and we have a 65 with side chambered exhuast, neither of which bother me for noise at all.

Whats everyones experience with open headers?
Thanks
Matt

It probably won't be as loud once the damage to your ear drums is completed.

Personally, I love the sound of open headers! But, living in the city I wouldn't get 2 blocks before being pulled over for noise polution. :D As long as "YOU" don't mind the noise, and don't have to worry about tickets, I say "GO FOR IT!" :)

I'd worry about heat damage to the fiberglass floorboards from the exhaust blowing right on them.

It's not too bad if you just idle around in gear. I drove around like that with bare 2149's for a week. Limp around with no throttle. Gotta get on the freeway full throttle at least one time tho :D

no prob there.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's going to be loud but if you keep the rpm's under 2k you should be alright.

I was running mine under partial open headers(headers didn't meet up with exhaust the right way) and it was LOUD at WOT but I had a cop pull up behind me at a stop light and he didn't do anything when I pulled away nicely.

Good to hear it should be driveable for atleast my work runs.
No need for high revs on the drive, just want to get as many miles in on it as I can as soon as I can (I'll be posting about motor break-in this week probably).

As long as its work driveable I'll be happy, I can ride one of my bikes or steal a car from my parents (hell, I've stolen the car I drive now for the 3 years...)

The only thing that worries me, is the shop that going to do my exhuast, is about .5-1 mile from the local sheriffs station :p::D. But oh well!

Thanks again
Matt

I drove mine across town open headers. It was fun. I was going to the exhaust shop but it turns out they couldn't do it that day so I had to drive it back.

Loud as all hell just about sums it up. It wouldn't be that bad except it hits the floorboard and vibrates around. If it's in good tune and you're not throwing flames out of the exhaust you should be fine on the floorboards. When I drove across town it was more like 14 miles. At first you'll think it's loud, but then when there are no police around you'll just have to try and wind it out at least once. It's a beautiful sound!
