Default What can I expect?

I searched this forum but maybe I missed it. I'm doing a complete exhaust and I'm looking for an honest answer. Money is somewhat of an issue , I have an 88 coupe with shift kit and open air lid. I bought Magnaflow exhaust and I am ready to purchase headers. I honestly am leaning towards shorties because of money. My question is what can I expect to gain if I put shorties , remove all the cats and put a y pipe to my magnaflows? Of course Im going to ask what will the difference be if everything is the same but full length? Thanks in advance. Oh yea , I plan on a complete tune after its complete.

Shorties leave power on the table but they will most likely be better than the stock manifolds. You will have to tune it for maximum power Gains.

Will I be at the 275 hp area with shorties no cats and exhaust? or will I need full lengths to do that?

I had the same dilemma, net/net shorties are a waste of money.

The best thing you can do is get LT1 exhaust manifolds. You're looking at approx $100 + $50 shipping depending on where you and the manifolds are. I have an '89/L98 and with the L98 and the LT1 manifolds the difference is significant, you can see why the LT1s flow better

So you think the LT-1 manifolds flow better than a shorty header?? If so the LT-1 mannies bolt right up to the L98 setup? I want to remove my cats also with magnaflows , will I notice a significant difference?

The standard exhaust manifolds are considered "shorty" headers.
I can tell you this, changing to long tube headers will knock almost a second from your quarter mile time.

You can get Hedman headers real cheap

Just putting the 2 manifolds next to each other, you can see the difference. I haven't put my manifolds on yet, but with my research here, I've heard they bolt right on and the bolt holes on the flange that connects to your y-pipe might need to be "ovaled out" (not sure if its all 3 bolts, it might only be one)

Those are the exact same hedman headers I was looking at. If I put those on with no cats and magnaflows , how much of a gain can I expect?
