Another good engine reference is:
"How to Understand, Serivce and Modify Corvette Fuel Injection", by Chales D. Probst.
I bought it the second it came out. And read it cover to cover. [I spend my life on airplaines]
In general the information is very good. However specfically, there are many errors in specific years and systems. The book is not accurate at all.
It's a shame. The man designed the systems that we use. However he died before he ever compiled the GM book. His heirs edited this book and got it published. This book is a good reference only if you know where the glairing errors exist, (which the publishers either did not care about or were too oblvious to understand) or only care for general information about GM fuel injection which is painted w/o reference to any specific model/year.
Been reading his stuff for years, this one stinks. Sorry, that's the way I feel.

Get the other book recommended "How to Tune & Modify Chevrolet Fuel Injection" by Ben Watson. It is an excellent beginners book. Starts with the basic Chevrolet circuit and works up explaining everything from "closed loop" to fuel maps. Has a nice diagnostic section too.
