Default What sensor is this?

Hi new member here and also new to corvette ownership. I inherited this c4 when my dad passed in May and I noticed it was leaking oil from above the oil filter and been trying to detect where it is coming from. I noticed this sensor looked wet and was wondering what it's for? It's next to the distributor and It's a L98. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

First for future reference it helps to say what year you have.
as for your part its a oil pressure sender/switch, about a $10.00 part available over the counter

and I believe that has some control over your fuel pump.

Finally have a little time to mess with it and was wondering if anyone knew what size socket fits over the sensor to unscrew it? I tried (carefully) with pliers but I could barely put pressure on it before it slipped off the "nut" part. Lol

Just did this on my '91 a couple weeks back. Used a 1 1/16 oil pressure sensor socket. I removed the distributor cap to get good access to it.

It is 1-1/16. If you don't have a socket IMO an "Oil pressure switch socket" works best.

I don't think that one wire sensor in the middle will do anything with the fuel pump.

Cool thanks! Yea I got the cap off right now. I'll get that socket tonight and mess with it tomorrow. I think I may get a new sensor too because the plug that goes on the sensor us melted

Ok so I finally got the socket and took out the sensor tonight and it is jacked up. The plastic part of the sensor is 1 1/4" long and every auto parts place I go to has one that's almost 3" long. Also this one has only one prong and if I'm not mistaken the one prong sensor is for the gauge that has a light, but I have a gauge. The sensor that that auto parts store has 3 prongs. So did someone put the wrong sensor on my car previously? I'm confused please help. Here are some pics. ..

With only one pin my guess is that it's a oil pressure sender.

Have your auto parts store change a GM# 25036935 to whatever brand they have and you should be all set.

Here's an Amazon link you can check some visuals.

Amazon.com: New OEM Oil Pressure Sender or Switch (1 Pin) GM 25036844 25036935: Automotive Amazon.com: New OEM Oil Pressure Sender or Switch (1 Pin) GM 25036844 25036935: Automotive

Where is the oil temp sensor on the L98? I understand the oil pressure sensor should have 3 wires. The diagram I looked at for an 88 shows the oil temp sensor uses a single green wire.

On your 88 the "oil pressure" sender has 3 wires....The "oil Temperture" sender is above the oil filter and has 1 wire...
Apparently the 91 Corvette only has one wire on the Oil Pressure Sender...
It looks to me like there may have been a fire at one time near the Oil Sender , those wires, connections, and surrounding area look burnt.....WW

OP - The part # I referenced is correct and if the same AP store can change a GM # 12085500 (ACD PT100) you'll have the correct connector also. I overlooked the fact it looked busted also.

When you install the sender/switch if you're curious enough, leave the connector off and start the car. Check your cluster. The wire to your switch should be LT BLUE? It's an indicator switch that supplies a signal to the cluster and also the CCM for cluster indicators. CHECK GAUGES maybe.

The taller part you were offered for your car can be seen in your snapshot. It's pointed to the left side of the car parallel to the ground.

Depending upon the branding of the replacement connector you buy you can quite likely unpin the terminal and just insert your wire/terminal into the connector shell. No cut/splice required maybe.

This .pdf might be difficult to access but the cross-section view of the connecter will give you an idea of what's required to unpin the terminal I believe. I'm quite sure it's a Metri-Pack 150 and you might want to make sure whatever you buy has the same snap-on retainer on the rear of it.

Thanks for the information.

EDIT
I only have a 93 but I use OnDemand for diagrams, and information. The version I have has information for just about everything from 1990 to 2008.

I did not see the other sensor in the picture. I was wrong.
