When my dash was doing the same thing I took it apart and resoldered every joint on the back of the computer board. Haven't had a problem since.

I had the issue where the digital info would either not display when it was cold, or the speedo would be sluggigh, or stuck on a random number. After researching threads like this and watching "Crazy Uncle Burton" (aka Batee.com) on youtube:
I figured I could do the job myself. But the batee 'repair kit' was a bit pricey. So I did more research and found the connector that batee.com sells for $30 for less than 3 bucks here... http://www.allelectronics.com/make-a...spacing/1.html

ALSO, VERY IMPORTANT!!!! In order to remove the instrument cluster YOU MUST LOWER THE STEERING COLUMN or risk breaking plastic bits off in prying the thing out with force. (it can be done. I did, but regret it) The 'dropping of the steering column' is apparently so obvious to everyone else on the forum is isn't mentioned much. So, here's how to lower the steering column:

1) Remove the carpet panel (which will require disconnecting wires for the light and jumper block)
2) Remove the metal plate behind the carpet panel. (Watch out for the heat tubing (mine was already busted by a previous owner)
3) Remove the two 14mm bolts and plate holding the steering column up.

Here are the two bolts, and plate (top of the photo), holding the steering column up in place snug with the dash.

Bolts and plate removed.

Lowered steering column. Now you can get the bezel and cluster in and out without busting up the place!!

It ended up I didn't have to re soldier a new connector. I just cleaned things up and seated connectors back nice and tight, and my gremlins are gone for now (knock on wood).

P.S. Another lesson I learned. Don't remove the plastic casing on the steering column behind the turn signal. There's a plastic piece that will fall out (that pushes the dimmer switch rod) and it is a pain in the **** to put back in.
P.S.S You'll need a friend to hold the steering column back up in place when you re-bolt the column and the plate back in place.
