I just installed my MSD Digital 6 and am having starting difficulties. It's just when I intitialy start the car, it almost acts like there is a fuel shortage or something. This was installed along with a Compucar Wet Nitrous system. Other than the starting difficulty the ignition system works great.
Has anyone else noticed this problem after installing this MSD 6?
Did you enable the starting timing retard? I did and the car would barely run. Any time it fell under 1000 rpm's it would die. Without the timing retard it runs perfectly, no real difference except for the lighting bolt it throws for a spark.
I agree with Nathan. I could not get mine to work with the start timing retard engaged. Set it in position 2 I think to not let that function work. Check your book to make sure because I can't remember for sure. I think if you had about 14:1 compression maybe that would be useful to have spark retard on startup.
No I didn't think to check this, I will during lunch though. I did by this used from a forum member, he had most settings already set. I only had to change one for my application.
Well, I tried it with the stock ignition hooked up...it fires right up. So I know it's something with the MSD 6. I did notice that before I start it, if I leave the key in the position with the accesories on for a second (compared to just cranking it quickly) it will fire much better. The MSD doesn't need time to "juice up" does it???
